You seemed to be able to read the confirmation code. Yes, I understand those are difficult, but it's at the level that cuts down drastically on spam. One level lower and the floodgates open.

Register and it goes away. As for the news, I would say Jim does seem to have quite a bit of it. I've been tied up with a few other projects lately, but do still check for news items constantly and the forum remains open 24/7.

There is no new news on this site or Jims. You both have lost the market share of all Gannett employees. Bored, yawn. done. Also, you're confirmation codes cannot be read!

Although off-topic....big meetings at the Courier Post in Cherry Hill today. After the editor E.J. Mitchell was laid off yesterday, a bunch of biggies from Asbury Park were there to discuss how and when they are going to consolidate Copy Editor functions to Asbury. After the classified ad-taking was moved there last year, and the conversion to RTC on Aug. 2nd and now this, it seems obvious they have every intention of shutting the place down by end of year.

Surprised no one has replied to any of these posts. You do know
the rest of the Gannett papers are following this protocol. Past artists
are sitting and waiting for emails, receiving phone calls from customers
who are ticked and past artists are sending instructions on how to build
their customers ads. Word has it that the GPC has quotas that have to be
met each and every day. God bless the sales people and the advertisers
because no one is going to hold their hands. What you see is what you
get! Your ad is now far, far away from home. This is the saddest thing
I have seen in all my years of Gannett. Bottom line — advertisers — Gannett
doesn't give a crap about your ads. If they did, they would never of sent
your ads away from their local artists. I say this with a very heavy heart.
I have grown to care for these local advertisers. I have felt their pain over
lost sales and a bad economy. I actually feel elated when I produce a positive
ad for them and it works — but no longer. Gannett has shown the local advertiser
that their ad doesn't matter any longer. They are willing to send it to India or
to a Gannett sweat shop that doesn't care if you are in Indy or West Virginia. Your ad will get the five minute treatment like all the other hundreds of ads. They took the local out of local advertising and they have proved once again that no one at Gannett gives a rats ass about the local advertisers or the employees of Gannett. Craig, better watch that bonus coming, because I will let your customers know what Gannett is doing to them. Facebook, Twitter, all works for us too. Your bottom line and revenue will drop because of your greed. This is not the end of this. The news media, what is left of it will report on your greed practices. Did you really think we would just stand by and allow you to exploit your employees and your advertisers? Funny, but it appears the artist care more about the advertisers than all mightly Gannett! You are screwed — get used to it. It's a long trip to the unemployment line Craig — and believe me, you will be there. All in due time my friend, all in due time

Just so you know, we lost or Marketing department in the second round of cuts. But I know Wilmington was able to keep theirs.

Do you still have your Marketing and Research Departments? Whatever's happening in Wilmington will happen were I am.

Wilmington will start ad consolidation in about a week. Three employees were let go. One designer and two employees that work at the digital ad desk. All other employees were retained. One supervisor, two managers, three paginators and three artists. All will have different titles and none will be doing actual ad building. There will only be able three ad tracker programs at this site and they will be installing a newer version of ad tracker that I imagine will be capable of doing many more things than the current system does.

Saw this on Gannett blog:

I have heard that Gannett is looking at converting all its papers to a standard pagination system within the next three years. They are looking at a PC-based system, I believe CSS. Doubtless this is so certain content/pages can be mass-produced and fewer page designers and copy editors needed.

Ahh, yes. But "someone" is the key word there. That "someone" does not have to be on-site.

But someone still has to lay out the sections, I would assume.

DPS already has the capacity to drop the ad into said page. When the salesperson/inside-salesperson orders the ad the following information is included: size of ad; BW, spot or process color; run date(s); and POSITION (far forward, section, etc.) After the ad has been sent to the consolidated production center, proofed and approved, it gets released to the page. There is a hole waiting for it as the "news" is placed around it. It is then sent to the pressroom. As for those remaining in Production: pack yer bags!

That's interesting because in Wilmington they have created an additional pagination
position in addition to the two original positions and everyone has to reapply for the jobs because they are considered new positions.

We've heard whispers in the wind in NJ of pagination moving to a regionalized site. New software will be implemented for pagination Gannett-wide so that all paginators are using the same system. Sounds like the same thing that happened to other ad services people - everyone had to jump on DPS, and CS4 - and why? So that it would be easier to regionalize. So look out paginators - no one is safe anywhere in Gannett - well maybe the managers as we've seen time and time again. I think it will take the APP at least another year + before they can send pagination to the midwest, but you never know....

The latest word on the grapevine is that Vineland printing is to be outsourced to make way for printing the Courier Post in Freehold. All pagination to be moved eventually to the Iowa RTC facility (along with ad production), which has now merged with the ad-building unit (something we had not heard about). Is this a corporate-wide move or Jersey specific?

Maybe is the keyword... they will most likely survive.. just like cockroaches have since the beginning of time! :P

It is so true it is unbelievable. I don't work at that paper but it seems to
be a trend at every Gannett site. The workers who do the least and spend
their time on FB, the internet and whine and complain – they keep or promote.
The real workers who keep their noses to the grind stone and produce al the work – they either get rid of them or harass them!

I have also never figured out why Gannett is the only fortune 500 company left
that retains so many managers. As stated above – who are they managing? Most, but not all, cannot do the tasks that the workers do. They just know how to shuffle paper work. Oh well, so be it. When the remaining workers quit the unproductive managers will have a real wake up call. Then maybe, just maybe, it will be shown who really does all the work and these middle managers are not needed.
