Having been given a "voluntary" buyout arrangement with a form letter stating that if enough "voluntary" buyouts were not taken, the next step would be "involuntary layoffs" there has been plenty of drama with unemployment, and very little clear and direct assurance or help from human resources. Severance, which was called "salary continuation" ended, and umeployment insurance did kick in. One phone interviewer told me I was out of luck, and the second saw no problem with it! It was a case of how willing the case worker at unemployment was willing (or able) to listen to the entire situation. Tier II unemployment benefits come next. Kind of hoping it all goes smoothly. The actual help from Gannett was minimal, and there was never a meeting of any kind to explain the ramifications of our decisions. At that point, we actually didn't know what to ask anyway.
