Just walk through the ad department and you will see him. Also the looks on the faces of the other reps there should show you it's true.

I've tried to confirm this, but all our sources are in the newsroom and aren't in touch with this side of the operation. If the tipster could contact us, that could help. Try our news tips form.

From an anonymous tipster:
In Salem they hired the Ad manager's husband for careerbuilders.com after laying off many of those handling that last week. Looks really bad.

There will be an all-employees meeting with the publisher at 9am PDT tomorrow. We may have an official total then.

An additional copy editor appears to make it 6. Many positions have been rearranged. But: we hear more changes may be coming, potentially on Tuesday. The publisher is having meetings tomorrow. We'll stay on it http://oregonmediacentral.com, even after we wrap up the live blog.

The number is still at 3, but something's coming: "There's an all newsroom meeting scheduled for 5:15."

I've posted the three so far at the SJ to the forum for that. We've gotten a bit of description of the day so far inside the building on the liveblog, linked above, like "HR's door has been closed most of the afternoon" and "more all-black ensembles" than usual, while the count comes in.

All I have to report is that the publisher still has not been seen. He said today was the day. Productivity can't be high.

All is silent. I'll post something when I get it.

We're tracking Statesman Journal layoffs here all day. The latest is this message from inside the newsroom:

It doesn't seem to have started here yet but is nearly sure to be this morning. The pub's office is dark right now. Everyone keeps scanning the newsroom to see who is leaving; some gallows humor. Definitely more fake chuckling than usual. Also, more all-black ensembles.

I think a lot of people are following Gannett blog or the #blackthursday tag on Twitter via cell. I know I am.
