hiring people to fill laid off positions?

So, I worked in a Gannett newsroom department and they transferred to another department. Got laid off about a year ago. Now the first department that I worked in is hiring ... why aren't they considering someone like me? Was I targeted?

A year or so ago, we laid off almost an entire Circ dept. Now we are rebuilding it. Apparently not having the personnel to work directly with the customers to fix problems quickly resulted in a large drop in net revenue. Apparently this decision was taken without full understanding of what the employees were doing. Not the first time we've done this.

What region are you from? Curious, as I was in circulation and don't see that happening here.

Isn't it funny how circulation and circulation customer service have become so unimportant? They gutted the department at my site, and our sales dropped like a rock. It's almost as though they want everything on the web for free and forget about the newspaper.

Laid of in July 09 after 10 years, my boss called and offered me my old job back at $15,000 less, no benis and a temp position but 40 hours plus. Yes in circulation single copy.
