Kane orders hire backs in Lansing?

This post has been moved to the correct forum. It was posted by "yeah right!" A personal attack was removed.

So I heard an interesting rumor about Kane about two months ago. Guess he made some special trip to Lansing to chastize the people in charge. Guess Kane told the OC that they should totally bring back the staffs of Noise and GLWoman. He was VERY empathetic about the subject, a source said. Supposedly Kane told the Michigan OC (primarily Mickey Hirten) that they f-up by firing the NOISE and GLW staffs. Apparently he ordered his lieutenants to hire back all of the staff members involved with both publications. Still hasn't happened. Guess Kane is all talk and nothing else.

Ironically the farthest from Kane's orders has occurred. Apparently a graphic artist (who is very talented and deserving) has been promoted to the Living Editor job (overseeing NOISE, GLWoman and Living). It sounds like editors who have a "personal interest" in the candidate are making selections based on their "personal interest". Why didn't they replace Robin Meiner-Swartz with laid off employee Brian Fisher, the former editor of NOISE? LSJ Executive Editor Mickey Hirten clearly isn't the appropriate figure to determine ME's intentions.

So what the heck is going on in Lansing? Clearly, Michael G. Kane has no idea.

I haven't heard about Kane ordering the people at the LSJ to hire back the staffs of those publications but I do know that the decision to fire the staff members of those publications resulted in HUGE losses for the publications. I've worked in the business end of things and know that both publications were profitable prior to the firings in Dec 08. Afterward, revenue spiraled downward more than anyone anticipated. On top of that, a new entertainment tab has popped up in the LSJ market and the competiting woman's magazine is selling more ads than before. Market share was definitely lost on this one. I wouldn't be surprised to know that Mickey Hirten was the guy behind it. After all he was the editor who published all of those state worker salaries online that resulted in nearly 10,000 subscription cancellations (yes, it was close to that at first) and an apology from the LSJ's publisher a week later. That loss alone cost the LSJ and Gannett millions of dollars a year. It makes you wonder how someone who has made so many horrendously awful financial decisions for a company continues to keep his job? Those of us who regularly saw the numbers never got it.

I pity the people in Lansing having SK as the advertising director. I was not impressed with her knowledge. She never seemed to do anything except whine and complain. Her staff at NNCO had to be some of the laziest people around. How can you sell anything sitting at your desk playing on Facebook and Myspace.
