Re: Anything from Jersey
Very quiet all day at the APP and the HNT/CN. All believe it will happen on Thursday. The agony of the wait is horrendous!

I am not big on wishing ill to others, but Gannett and the Jersey management deserve whatever pain and suffering they get for making folks wait for the news -- regardless of who stays and who goes. Let folks know already, you asses, so people can move on!

From the Blog, 9 at The (Vineland) Daily Journal:
• Credit clerk
• Librarian
• Ad sales rep
• Sales support person
• 1 in Circulation
• 4 in News
Also:
• Open position closed
• Classified Vineland/Hammonton Manager was demoted.
Also earlier rumor of Nuestra cuts,I have no knowldge if this is true which would add to the number I have.

App ads dept is almost non existent. Maybe 2 real designers left. Good luck trying to get all the ads print and online done. What a way to run a paper. Advertisers were already waiting for proofs now sales will lose their minds and advertisers will really go elsewhere! Gotta love corporate America. Alienate the consumer..

There are exacting 3 designers left, 2 outsource and one to make corrections and do ads that are not sent out. There is still electronic imaging and the harris team. Thats all and TT he does processing, ad corrections, st/pus and courier deliveries. Guy Friday. Good Luck to my colleagues that remain. Miss you.

More layoffs at the Courier-Post today....several from editorial left with envelopes in hand. Seven pressmen were laid off and the entire classified dept is being cut later in August. All calls will be diverted to Asbury Park.
So that makes many more than 30 as of yesterday.
Surely it's just a matter of time now before they close the doors for good - why else leave a skeleton crew to stumble on and push this rag out?

The APP total seems low. Can we get an accounting here of the folks who got laid off last week and see if we can figure out what the number actually is?

The APP story said the total was 125 for the Jersey papers. I only accounted for 50 in the breakdowns. Anyone have any updates?

Re: Anything from Jersey
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE LAYOFFS FOR CN/HNT/APP ARE DONE YET? WILL THERE BE ANYMORE IN THE FUTURE? THERE WONT BE ANYONE LEFT ESPECIALLY IN CN. I THINK IF THERE IS ANOTHER ROUND OF LAYOFFS MANAGEMENT SHOULD BE KICKED OFF THEIR HIGH HORSES AND BE INCLUDED IN THE FIRING SQUAD BECAUSE SOME MANAGERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN GONE A LONG TIME AGO BUT HAVE SPECIAL "TREATMENT"

Re: Anything from Jersey
Eventually, I believe no one will be left there. So, many gone in the past year and as of last week. Eventually they won't even need the art dept, the inside sales people are outsourcing down at APP. The HNT/CN will most likely be next. Such a shame, all because Gannett is in the hole and this is the way they save money and continue a profit margin for their shareholders. By eliminating positions in favor of cheap outsourced labor in a third world country. Welcome to Corporate America! Welcome to the Continuing Fall of American Media!

There will be a lot more consolidation to Neptune for four of the NJ group. Already happening with editorial, most production/ad services. The local newsrooms are becoming bureaux. Next to go are photo/multimedia desks and ad production.

Most of ad production is non-existent. 90-95% is being outsourced. They my as well close the HNT/CN and save the rent money and move the last souls down to the mothership.

Re: Anything from Jersey
My understanding is that the count for APP was 42 full time and 19 part time.
