Wisconsin group
Re: Wisconsin group
Here in Wausau we always assumed are jobs were safer than the smaller papers. Then if they don't like you they ship you off to a smaller paper. That was the case with 2 people working in Wausau that are now in Steven Point. Does Gannett realize that someone who lives on negativity can't inspire people at a smaller paper. Just because your good in sales dosn't mean you can manage.....and please if anybody is reading this, and they get hired as a manager at Gannett don't let it go to your head....I know a lot of people at the smaller papers and they work there a** off, and it's a shame when human resourses and the GM know what the mamger is doing is wrong, and they do nothing about it

Re: Wisconsin group
I heard that they let go Mark M. He was the best Business editor they have had in a long time. I guess working your a** off with 12 hour days and doing 4 peoples jobs isn't enough for Gannett.

Is this in addition to earlier cuts this month, or just adding a name to already reported numbers? Just trying to keep the count updated.
Thanks

Re: Wisconsin group
Any more on the upcoming bloodbath at the Fondy print plant? How many of those workers will get jobs at Action or the Appleton print plant?
And where will Sheboygan print?
And where will Sheboygan print?

Mark is sorely missed. His skills went waaaay beyond writing business stories.

There may be others, I'm not sure.
Can someone confirm?
Actually, Manitowoc laid off four people.

Get this: FdL is (for my short time yet) a printing facility, so is Appleton, and the Sheboygan Press is being shipped off to some print place in Milwaukeee, non Gannett. Bah, ha, ha, ha. Maybe they just want to share the wealth.
Fondy press - it wil be sold, to probably China!!!! Ka-Ching!!!
I know how Gannett can make some more money: Set up a huge picture window so passersby can look inside and watch the leaders left run around like chickens with their heads cut off. Stomach-wrenching, but amusing in some sick way.

2 fulltime get to go to Action and 1 to Appleton. The other 47 people are out of luck but all managers have jobs elsewhere.

Does it seem odd to anyone that the Sheboygan Press would be printed at a plant that Gannett does not own?

Extremely, what is going to be amusing is the appleton production facility come holiday time. They will have the Post Crescent, Press Gazette, Reporter, Northwestern, and Times Herald to complete. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Re: Wisconsin group
In times of extreme expense reduction it seems irresponsible to go outside the company to print the Sheboygan Press. If this true, could this indicate The Sheboygan Press is "on the block" and ready to be sold to an outside interest?

What's irresponsible about it? You seem to be assuming it is more expensive to print outside the company, but the Milwaukee print facility is much closer than the remaining Gannett facilities. Also, that's just an incredibly ill-informed speculation to write about the paper possibly being "on the block" because of where it is printed.

Re: Wisconsin group
Whether the Sheboygan Press is an acquisition target or not was simply a question, as for the expense aspect of the it all it seems like a good strategy to keep as much revenue within the company as possible.

Re: Wisconsin group
Keep dreaming. All the Wisconsin papers are making money. As much as we'd like to see individual papers or even the whole Wisconsin group sold to someone else, it isn't going to happen.

I wish we would be sold to a corporation that actually cared about community journalism. And one that let the sites determine how best to present the information w/out having to go so far up the chain it takes 6 months to get an ok with anything.

The News Leader in Staunton, Va also is printed at the Harrisonburg paper printing press which is family owned, not Gannett owned. The papers are then trucked here @midnight for our carriers to pick up and deliver. They say it's cheaper.

What's the latest with contract negotiations for Appleton and Sheboygan? I heard Gannett wanted their union workers to take 12 percent pay cuts.

If Fond du Lac and Oshkosh will are printing in appleton, what about Sheboygan? All three now print at the Fond du Lac plant.
sheboygan press was farmed out to another plant. the reporter and oshkosh northwestern were sent to appleton. this plant has to time for maintnance of there printing press now that these papers are there. they decided to stuff all these papers in one press room to save money and in doing this are beating the applenton crew to death ten days in a row schedules. I understand why they did this but they took on way more then they can handle.
