Gannett faces problem with virtual career fairs

Gannett is hoping online career fairs appeal to job seekers in their markets.

According to a memo sent Monday from Leslie Giallombardo, Gannett's vice president of advertising, The Cincinnati Enquirer and The (Nashville) Tennessean have had great financial return by hosting a virtual career fair with the vendor App Vault.

According to the memo, obtained by Gannettoid.com, Cincinnati generates from $30-$40,000 per event and Nashville generated $23,000. Both paid App Vault $2,500 per event to create and manage the online events.

Despite being profitable, virtual career fairs hosted by Gannett properties are in violation of an exclusivity contract the company signed 12 years ago with CareerBuilder.com, according to an internal memo sent Thursday.

The career fairs were hosted by App Vault, a vendor that sells virtual career fairs and other employment products, and generated as much as $40,000 with a fee of $1,695-2,500 to produce.

Thursday's memo from Dan Donaghy, Gannett's senior vice president of sales, said CareerBuilder, "is of the opinion, and we agree, that the virtual career fair products from AppVault, LLC and Reel Centric are in violation of the exclusivity provisions in our longstanding affiliation agreements."

It also says something painfully obvious about Gannett.

While all companies - and media companies - have their critics; the critics of Gannett are VERY numerous, include many, many, many ex-employees who are also journalists.

That says something VERY alarming about the management of Gannett. This has been the case more than a decade.

Look at that idiot Dew-bow, and the former idiots Currie and Clark and et al.

And look at the quality of publishers at the divisions. Little depots and fear=mongers, tyrants and idiots. And the EEs and MEs???? Well... let's not even go there. Just look at the idiots in charge in Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio. Need I say more???
