severance over
Today, being June 3 is the last day of severance for those getting the max 26 weeks from the Dec. 3 layoff. Anyone out there want to tell how they're doing? Any job seekers land anything?

Want to share your story about filing for unemployment (any troubles) and looking for a job during these tough times?

Jim Gold, terminated Arizona Republic editor, started a web site, http://www.jiltedjournalists.com to collect tales of unemployment and serve as a resource for the unemployed journos. Check it out.

Re: severance over
I learned early in the job search to be very careful not to bring the “baggage” of Gannett and the newspaper industry into my resume. My first resume highlighted all I was involved in which focused on expense reductions, cutbacks, eliminating this and that. It was quickly pointed out that I didn’t highlight positives new companies would see as a value. And I admit, it was difficult at first to re-think my purpose given the “slash and burn” mentality engrained.

Re: severance over
Having been given a "voluntary" buyout arrangement with a form letter stating that if enough "voluntary" buyouts were not taken, the next step would be "involuntary layoffs" there has been plenty of drama with unemployment, and very little clear and direct assurance or help from human resources. Severance, which was called "salary continuation" ended, and umeployment insurance did kick in. One phone interviewer told me I was out of luck, and the second saw no problem with it! It was a case of how willing the case worker at unemployment was willing (or able) to listen to the entire situation. Tier II unemployment benefits come next. Kind of hoping it all goes smoothly. The actual help from Gannett was minimal, and there was never a meeting of any kind to explain the ramifications of our decisions. At that point, we actually didn't know what to ask anyway.

Re: severance over
Part of the healing process is to let go and move on. You will be miserable if you cannot get beyond that point. It took me a long time too. Get out and press the flesh, shake hands, meet people, network. You're not going to get work staying at home and looking out the window. Been there and done that too. I know two circulation district managers who lost their jobs and found work as trucking company dispatch supervisors. I know a reporter who went to an insurance company as a fraud investigator and another reporter who is working in due diligence for a large bank. Newspaper employees are generally used to multitasking under lots of pressure and they can thrive at these kinds of hectic jobs.

The inference here is that laid off employees are at the age when they can seek all of the new horizons. When you try to apply it to someone 63, the limitations are quite obvious. Yes, being a greeter at Wal-Mart might be just the answer!

03A question a lot of people ny asian escort have when ny asian escorts it comes to dating and meeting new people that you might want to start a relationship with is where ny escort they should take ny escorts this person and what they should do. Some of the most classical date venues are taking someone out for dinner, going to the cinema
