Gannett consolidating ad production services

Just like Wall Street, the men/women in the golden palace are trying to make as much money as possible before they jump ship when the shit hits the fan. Then most of them have in their contract that after retirement Gannett will continue to pay them a pension and pay for their health care. That's all they care about, BONUSES!
Hopefully the IRS is looking into Gannett, too:

At your paper, who or what department sends the ads to the GPC site: production staff or sales reps or inside sales reps? Who receives and proofs them? How do they look (compared to 2AdPro)?

Ad consolidation plan rolled out at our paper.
Supervisor's position will remain in place. The will be three layout/pagination
positions, two ad tracker positions and three positions that will help train
sales reps, work with clients and sales reps, make last minute changes on ads. and two ad coordinator positions.
Everyone will have to apply for these new positions.

Re: Gannett consolidating ad production services
I have a question I hope someone can answer concerning the consolidation of the ad production to DesMoines and Indy. Gannett says
this is not officially outsourcing because the ads are not going out of the country, but someone told me it doesn't matter and that if your job is outsourced you will receive two years of unemployment compensation.
All responses appreciated and would like to get actual facts if available.

It appears this site and Gannett blog have died an early death.
There are no timely posts from either the administrators or people
who work for Gannett. What the heck has happened to everyone?

I'm on here every day. If I get news to pass along, I will. I've been looking into the consolidation and ongoing layoffs lately, but true, I haven't posted much lately.
Jim, however, certainly does have timely posts on the Blog.

So how many staffers get booted to the street at your site? What I want to know is why are all the managers/supervisors in all the production departments at every site keeping their jobs? The are the highest paid in the department and one would think that, for cost-cutting measures, they would be the first to go. Don't need them.

In the Perfect World that would be the ideal! But Nooooooo, that would be too logical. My educated guess is why keep artists if the work will all be going to the production centers? Keep managers/supervisors to manage the incoming work from sales? Maybe that's their logic? Believe me there was a many a time in the past when no manager/supervisors were around & the department just managed fine without them. All the work got done and in a timely manner. Deadlines were met, fires were put out. The world kept spinning!
The trend I heard is that those that are being kept on are getting new titles. After all... their manager title will be passé!

Laying off three positions in Wilmington. Supervisor and IT person will be retained.
All others have to apply for the new positions that were created. No one has been told who it will be yet. They have to interview with their supervisor and the customer service VP, better known as the terminator. He has to do the dirty work no one else wants to do.

Fair enough, Guest.
I am close on a few things and will post news as I have it, but the hourly pay rate keeps me from putting as much time in as sometimes needed.

Re: Gannett consolidating ad production services
5 people from APP ad services told yesterday that their last day will be April 9. All managers spared again, and actually a new management position was created. Total managers: 4. Total workers: 4. Makes sense. 4 or 5 rounds of layoffs/buy-outs only resulted in the loss of one manager over the last 2 years. Countless peons were let go over that same period of time.

Re: Gannett consolidating ad production services
So, likes it's one manager per worker now? Unbelievable!!! And the managers are spared again! Who are they managing?? They are managing to keep their jobs! What's up with the HNT? There are no inside sales reps to send the ads and sales reps were never trained. I guess they are going to be trained? What about the lone person left in production? Or are the two managers left there going to take her job too?

Yep - looks like the bobsy twins of the CN land on their feet again; hope they don't get caught researching/pricing vacation plans and visiting facebook on company time. Let's not forget to mention all those managers at APP, some worth their weight in gold, most are not. Would LOVE to know the salaries all those managers are pulling.

Yeah, no talents! Well if that what Gannett wants, that's what they get! And when the papers close down, they have no one to blame but themselves. LOSERS!

Re: Gannett consolidating ad production services
It is so true it is unbelievable. I don't work at that paper but it seems to
be a trend at every Gannett site. The workers who do the least and spend
their time on FB, the internet and whine and complain – they keep or promote.
The real workers who keep their noses to the grind stone and produce al the work – they either get rid of them or harass them!
I have also never figured out why Gannett is the only fortune 500 company left
that retains so many managers. As stated above – who are they managing? Most, but not all, cannot do the tasks that the workers do. They just know how to shuffle paper work. Oh well, so be it. When the remaining workers quit the unproductive managers will have a real wake up call. Then maybe, just maybe, it will be shown who really does all the work and these middle managers are not needed.

The latest word on the grapevine is that Vineland printing is to be outsourced to make way for printing the Courier Post in Freehold. All pagination to be moved eventually to the Iowa RTC facility (along with ad production), which has now merged with the ad-building unit (something we had not heard about). Is this a corporate-wide move or Jersey specific?
