I got a subscription solicitation from the RAG here in Jersey where I was laid off from. If they honestly think that I'm going to splurge my well earned Unemployment Check money on that RAG, they'd better think, again!

Last time I saw it at the news stand it was so thin that you could "spit" through it!

TJN blows coverage of another story, this time they didn't have to travel far. Manhattanville College is a two minute drive from TJN and the best they can do is a photo of a cell phone alert? Do you people even try anymore? And who is the idiot that thought they had the right to do a screen grab of the girls photo on the schools athletic web page, did you forget to scroll down and read the copyright? Did you take it off LoHud after Manhattanville administrators threaten to sue?

Typical call by LN- Bragging with CY about how "innovative" they were in getting the picture because the news staff is busy with other "important work", until he gets caught doing the wrong thing...Again! Now watch and see how the blame-game shapes up. My bet is he goes after RW or RFR as his patsy this time.

Please take CYs photo off the home page, it shows nothing. It actually shows one thing, that she has no business being the Director of Photography

She learned that technique from Henry. And you needed a picture to see she shouldn't be where she is? At least it's not a picture of her kid playing in the HS band again. Thought that kid would never graduate. Now let's count how many time we can cover her son's x-country races.

What's the future of the new e-edition JN? I think the LoHud site is just awful, and am really liking reading the "real" paper. But I only saw one link to it somewhat buried on LoHud.

As a former Rocklander--and one whose father worked for the JN way back (30s, and again post-war late 40s-early 50s), and whose brother was a photog there in the late 60s, I have been following the Gannett gutting of the Rockland edition with interest, though from a distance.

Right now, the e-edition is free, does not even require a log-in. Which is great, but I would likely "subscribe" if a nominal fee should be required somewhere down the road.

Anyone out there know any more about the plans?

The plan is to sell the paper. The building is for sale and after next week papers will be trucked from THe Bergen Record in NJ over an hour and a half away when TJN shuts down its presses. It will be intersting when there is bad weather how long will the trip take and how late will the papers be ?? TJN is no longer a local paper- printed in NJ and most articles from AP. TJN can no longer compete.
It is all sad. This was once a great paper one of the best in Gannett.. VP Advertising must go- no reps, no managers equals NO SALES- It's simple>>>

With the success of the Hawaii sale THe Journal News will also soon be sold. Gannett will count its losses and run.

All those who are still there look for a new job. It is hard but it is better once you get out. People who appreciate your work and you as a person.

Any thoughts on Journal News being sold ????

I checked out lohud tonight and when I first logged on there was some sort of weird montage of Stacey Pagli (the woman accused of killing her daughter) along with pictures of Andrea Yates and Susan Smith. the title of the piece was something about Mothers that kill and now we all have to go through it again...I clicked on the box and got sent to a login page that wanted a password. I restarted lohud and the article was gone. I am now really curious what kind of half baked bizarre connection the fine journalists at TJN are going to make between these cases. I'm really hoping I imagined this. BTW TJN in general is getting its azz kicked in the story chat. The only people that disgust me more than LN and his feable minded few are the TJN readers that comment. what a bunch of idiots. Matthew Brown's photo is amazing and Juva's reporting has been great

the box came back on lohud. says "when mommy dearest becomes mommy deadliest...a new case has us asking why all over again" (still can't open it) these other 2 women killled 7 toddlers and infants between them. are we seriously making the assumption for our readers that the manhattanville case is the same thing?

This is a case of TJN failing in everything they do so they try to change every couple of months. Years ago they wanted to be like the NY TIMES, FAILED. Then LN and HF, the kings of innovation came in from USA Today and tried to make TJN like USA Today, FAILED. Then they decided to buy up the entire market and purchased a bunch of weekly papers and tried to put out their own, FAILED. Then they decided to give up on the print newspaper and put all resources into the web site, FAILED. Then decided to go back to being local, FAILED. This week they are trying to be like the NY POST with the tasteless WHEN MOOMY DEAREST BECOMES MOMMY DEADLIEST, one of the worst headlines and stories in journalism history from a newspaper that lost all their journalistic integrity years ago. Tomorrow is Monday so you should put extra people on to answer all the phones ringing with people canceling their subscription.

There were several stories some months ago on LoHud about the Mt. Kisco tech/addict who moved to Colorado and infected numerous patients here with Hep C.

Earlier this week there was a report of her sentencing in my local (Western Slope) morning paper, but no I found no follow-up story on LoHud. I waited, and finally e-mailed the link to one of the Westchester names in the "contact us" page. Within the hour (around 3p.m. EST) the AP story was on LoHud. (It appeared next day in the print edition.)

Don't know if the timing was pure coincidence or if no one was aware of the story until I sent the info. If the latter is the case, LoHud may now be depending on a casual reader two time zones and 1800 miles away to provide their "news."

Follow-up to my e-edition query: I mentioned how much I liked it to a long-time, now retired JNer. He asked me to send him a link, because he has not been able to find it on the LoHud homepage. (It is now buried even farther down in the "fine print.")

This is an intelligent, curious, persistent fellow. Eventually, he'd have tracked it down, but still.... So again, does anyone know what the plans are to promote the e-edition?

After losing power in the storm, I checked TJN on my smartphone Friday and the lead story on the mobile site was the weather. Since I was looking for details I clicked, only to find a AP story with a Philadelphia dateline pop up. I couldn't believe that 20 hours into the storm there wasn't a local story LoHud could link to. That place is a shell. I just hope some local conglomerate buys the paper. Wish Gannett would give them a chance before selling the building first.

Can't believe this talk that the Journal News is for sale like it's a revelation. Of course it is. The question is - who in he world would even CONSIDER buying it? NO ONE? So why is this even discussed as if it could happen? Someone please explain the rationale to even stating the possibility anyone would buy the Journal News.

Hey folks from The Journal News and Poughkeepsie Journal....How'd the printing turn out at the N.J. pressroom? New deadlines imposed, or what?

And what the heck are the laid off press people going to do now? Almost 170, right? Did the higher ups have anything to say about it?

Just curious.

The building is for sale, not the newspaper. It'll probably move to a storefront (guess) yet real estate in Westchester is pricey. Maybe it will move to NJ? (worse guess)

Why no comments lately?......Obviously everyone's happy in Westchesterville! The lords are overseeing the manor, and the serfs are busy in the field.

Or....Maybe the posters have just given up, surrendered to the fact that, to quote a former publisher, "it is what it is."
