I'm so tired of it all

I honestly cannot take one more day of this corporate BS. Everyone pretends that this company is making money and everyone is running around with white horses and cinderellas. I'm so tired of the pretend happy smiles and high fives. I am ready to be laid off. Please take me so I can start a new life without the stress and the BS of corporate. I am ready to take the layoff over another co-worker. At least I can take my pension before it is gone and reinvest it, have at least a half year's pay and then start on my new venture. It will be hard, but it can't be any harder than working for Gannett. When I start my own business I will never treat employees the way Gannett has treated theirs. I'm ready to be the sacrificial lamb for the other employees in my group. Unfortunately Gannett has chosen who will go and who will stay — and I'm very concerned I could be the one staying. I will ask for the managers to choose me over someone else with a family, but I'm sure they won't listen.

You can actually tell your HR department that you are intested in being laid off. The OC has a very difficult job deciding who gets the ax, so if you want to volunteer, let them know. I'm sure they'll take you up on your kind offer during the next round. Merry Christmas!

I am tired as well. Tired of the lack of communication and the low morale among everyone. People at my worksite are doing the best they can to stay cheerful, and positive, but it's hard. I am already sending out resumes and taking note of the temp agencies I need to call...this is going to be tough, whether I end up staying or going. But ya know, in a way, if I do go, I will end up happy, because I'm going to find something better somehow. The newspaper industry is running like a bunch of scared little rabbitts with no idea what to do next...so it's good I might be moving on.

As we are all waiting on the edge of our seats, hearing news from across the country I also sit here wondering if maybe this would be a good thing. This is the second company I have worked for in the publishing industry. My last two positions were last at a former employer due to downsizing, somehow I always got lucky and found another job before having to claim unemployment. However I am thinking this time I maynot be so lucky. Yes, in the last week I have updated my resume' and have even applied to a job. Well, as I am waiting patiently for the grim reaper to come visit my division of Gannett everyone is in my thoughts.

I"m tired of it also. Been there many years but have along way to go for retirement. But its not fun coming to work each day worrying about layoffs. I thought the ax was going to start today in Reno. As of 5 pm when i came home there was nothing yet? I have heard rumors but ?

Today people were passing each other in the hallway saying things like, "Hope I see you tomorrow." How is this a healthy work environment?? I've worked in some crappy places in my life but this takes the cake, honestly. I've never worked in a place where corporate scares people this badly.

Yeah, everyone was saying the same here in NJ. Hope to see you tomorrow. Or what did you read on the blog, that morning. Or going to read more tonight. Pathetic. We have to learn what is happening with our careers from anonymous sources on the internet, when we work for the biggest communications company on the earth! Just plain pathetic. But that is what Gannett is theses days? :(

I have never seen anything so badly handled. Ever. And so revealing of what geniuses, what stewards these captains of industry aren't. Not a shred of humanity, they're that removed. Layoffs are layoffs -- but layoffs at Gannett? Crass beyond belief. These people aren't fit to be the chief executives of anything. Corporate has muzzled every site, mandating even how local news is presented. The content of the product is pablum and cliche, and they think that's good. They think it's "branding." Brand this: Readership plummets across the demographic. Advertisers take what little money they have in tight times elsewhere. It's simple math. They had some good people out there, some good publishers still, reporters and sales staff still. All are either toeing the line to save their own derrier or are now unemployed. I'm so tired of the reporting now produced as "professional" that my journalism prof would have thrown me out the third-floor window of his class if I had written what I read too often in a Gannett product. I'm tired of looking at this monument to stupidity that Gannett has become, sucking the life out of the local autonomy of its papers in a kind of cannibalistic frenzy. I'm tired of wondering when Gannett is going to be a bad memory (2011? 2012?) and not the nightmare that visits every day those who, by daily happenstance as the only standard, are or are not without a job.
